Naidoc Week 2022

Naidoc Week 2022

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

This year’s theme, ‘Get Up! Sand Up! Show Up!’, is a call to action for systemic change and to also celebrate the many who have driven and led change over generations.

The relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non Indigenous Australians needs to be based on justice, equity, and the proper recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights.

Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! together to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent, and outcome.

During Naidoc Week My Medical Services Kurri Kurri will be showing our support with a kid’s colouring competition, with the winner announced on Thursday 7th along with a BBQ at 12:30pm. Everyone is invited to attend. We will also be joined by Uncle Warren Taggatt who will announce the winner.

We also encourage all our patients to check out our waiting room which lists all our surrounding towns and cities with their Aboriginal name and meaning.
